The Marijuana Conspiracy - The Real Reason Hemp is Illegal
"MARIJUANA is DANGEROUS."
Pot is NOT harmful to the human body or mind. Marijuana does NOT pose a threat to the general public. Marijuana is very much a danger to the oil companies, alcohol, tobacco industries and a large number of chemical corporations. Various big businesses, with plenty of dollars and influence, have suppressed the truth from the people.
The truth is if marijuana was utilized for its vast array of commercial products, it would create an industrial atomic bomb! Entrepreneurs have not been educated on the product potential of pot. The super rich have conspired to spread misinformation about an extremely versatile plant that, if used properly, would ruin their companies.
Where did the word 'marijuana' come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant...as you will read. The facts cited here, with references, are generally verifiable in the Encyclopedia Britannica which was printed on hemp paper for 150 years:
* All schoolbooks were made from hemp or flax paper until the 1880s; Hemp Paper Reconsidered, Jack Frazier, 1974.
* It was LEGAL TO PAY TAXES WITH HEMP in America from 1631 until the early 1800s; LA Times, Aug. 12, 1981.
* REFUSING TO GROW HEMP in America during the 17th and 18th Centuries WAS AGAINST THE LAW! You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769; Hemp in Colonial Virginia, G. M. Herdon.
* George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers GREW HEMP; Washington and Jefferson Diaries. Jefferson smuggled hemp seeds from China to France then to America.
* Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America and it processed hemp. Also, the War of 1812 was fought over hemp. Napoleon wanted to cut off Moscow's export to England; Emperor Wears No Clothes, Jack Herer.
* For thousands of years, 90% of all ships' sails and rope were made from hemp. The word 'canvas' is Dutch for cannabis; Webster's New World Dictionary.
* 80% of all textiles, fabrics, clothes, linen, drapes, bed sheets, etc. were made from hemp until the 1820s with the introduction of the cotton gin.
* The first Bibles, maps, charts, Betsy Ross's flag, the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were made from hemp; U.S. Government Archives.
* The first crop grown in many states was hemp. 1850 was a peak year for Kentucky producing 40,000 tons. Hemp was the largest cash crop until the 20th Century; State Archives.
* Oldest known records of hemp farming go back 5000 years in China, although hemp industrialization probably goes back to ancient Egypt.
* Rembrants, Gainsboroughs, Van Goghs as well as most early canvas paintings were principally painted on hemp linen.
* In 1916, the U.S. Government predicted that by the 1940s all paper would come from hemp and that no more trees need to be cut down. Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees. Plans were in the works to implement such programs; Department of Agriculture
* Quality paints and varnishes were made from hemp seed oil until 1937. 58,000 tons of hemp seeds were used in America for paint products in 1935; Sherman Williams Paint Co. testimony before Congress against the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act.
* Henry Ford's first Model-T was built to run on hemp gasoline and the CAR ITSELF WAS CONSTRUCTED FROM HEMP! On his large estate, Ford was photographed among his hemp fields. The car, 'grown from the soil,' had hemp plastic panels whose impact strength was 10 times stronger than steel; Popular Mechanics, 1941.
* Hemp called 'Billion Dollar Crop.' It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars; Popular Mechanics, Feb., 1938.
* Mechanical Engineering Magazine (Feb. 1938) published an article entitled 'The Most Profitable and Desirable Crop that Can be Grown.' It stated that if hemp was cultivated using 20th Century technology, it would be the single largest agricultural crop in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
The following information comes directly from the United States Department of Agriculture's 1942 14-minute film encouraging and instructing 'patriotic American farmers' to grow 350,000 acres of hemp each year for the war effort:
'...(When) Grecian temples were new, hemp was already old in the service of mankind. For thousands of years, even then, this plant had been grown for cordage and cloth in China and elsewhere in the East. For centuries prior to about 1850, all the ships that sailed the western seas were rigged with hempen rope and sails. For the sailor, no less than the hangman, hemp was indispensable...
...Now with Philippine and East Indian sources of hemp in the hands of the Japanese...American hemp must meet the needs of our Army and Navy as well as of our industries...
...the Navy's rapidly dwindling reserves. When that is gone, American hemp will go on duty again; hemp for mooring ships; hemp for tow lines; hemp for tackle and gear; hemp for countless naval uses both on ship and shore. Just as in the days when Old Ironsides sailed the seas victorious with her hempen shrouds and hempen sails. Hemp for victory!'
Certified proof from the Library of Congress; found by the research of Jack Herer, refuting claims of other government agencies that the 1942 USDA film 'Hemp for Victory' did not exist.
Hemp cultivation and production do not harm the environment. The USDA Bulletin #404 concluded that
hemp produces 4 times as much pulp with at least 4 to 7 times less pollution. From Popular Mechanics, Feb. 1938:
'It has a short growing season...It can be grown in any state...The long roots penetrate and break the soil to leave it in perfect condition for the next year's crop. The dense shock of leaves, 8 to 12 feet above the ground, chokes out weeds.
...hemp, this new crop can add immeasurably to American agriculture and industry.'
In the 1930s, innovations in farm machinery would have caused an industrial revolution when applied to hemp. This single resource could have created millions of new jobs generating thousands of quality products. Hemp, if not made illegal, would have brought America out of the Great Depression.
William Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) and the Hearst Paper Manufacturing Division of Kimberly Clark owned vast acreage of timberlands. The Hearst Company supplied most paper products. Patty Hearst's grandfather, a destroyer of nature for his own personal profit, stood to lose billions because of hemp.
In 1937, Dupont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. Dupont's Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division. Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron, etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined over 80% of Dupont's business.
THE CONSPIRACY
Andrew Mellon became Hoover's Secretary of the Treasury and Dupont's primary investor. He appointed his future nephew-in-law, Harry J. Anslinger, to head the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
Secret meetings were held by these financial tycoons. Hemp was declared dangerous and a threat to their billion dollar enterprises. For their dynasties to remain intact, hemp had to go. These men took an obscure Mexican slang word: 'marihuana' and pushed it into the consciousness of America.
MEDIA MANIPULATION
A media blitz of 'yellow journalism' raged in the late 1920s and 1930s. Hearst's newspapers ran stories emphasizing the horrors of marihuana. The menace of marihuana made headlines. Readers learned that it was responsible for everything from car accidents to loose morality.
Films like 'Reefer Madness' (1936), 'Marihuana: Assassin of Youth' (1935) and 'Marihuana: The Devil's Weed' (1936) were propaganda designed by these industrialists to create an enemy. Their purpose was to gain public support so that anti-marihuana laws could be passed.
Examine the following quotes from 'The Burning Question' aka REEFER MADNESS:
-
a violent narcotic.
-
acts of shocking violence.
-
incurable insanity.
-
soul-destroying effects.
-
under the influence of the drug he killed his entire family with an ax.
-
more vicious, more deadly even than these soul-destroying drugs (heroin, cocaine) is the menace of marihuana!
Reefer Madness did not end with the usual 'the end.' The film concluded with these words plastered on the screen: TELL YOUR CHILDREN.
In the 1930s, people were very naive; even to the point of ignorance. The masses were like sheep waiting to be led by the few in power. They did not challenge authority. If the news was in print or on the radio, they believed it had to be true. They told their children and their children grew up to be the parents of the baby-boomers.
On April 14, 1937, the Prohibitive Marihuana Tax Law or the bill that outlawed hemp was directly brought to the House Ways and Means Committee. This committee is the only one that can introduce a bill to the House floor without it being debated by other committees. The Chairman of the Ways and Means, Robert Doughton, was a Dupont supporter. He insured that the bill would pass Congress.
Dr. James Woodward, a physician and attorney, testified too late on behalf of the American Medical Association. He told the committee that the reason the AMA had not denounced the Marihuana Tax Law sooner was that the Association had just discovered that marihuana was hemp.
Few people, at the time, realized that the deadly menace they had been reading about on Hearst's front pages was in fact passive hemp. The AMA understood cannabis to be a MEDICINE found in numerous healing products sold over the last hundred years.
In September of 1937, hemp became illegal. The most useful crop known became a drug and our planet has been suffering ever since.
Congress banned hemp because it was said to be the most violence-causing drug known. Anslinger, head of the Drug Commission for 31 years, promoted the idea that marihuana made users act extremely violent. In the 1950s, under the Communist threat of McCarthyism, Anslinger now said the exact opposite. Marijuana will pacify you so much that soldiers would not want to fight.
Today, our planet is in desperate trouble. Earth is suffocating as large tracts of rain forests disappear. Pollution, poisons and chemicals are killing people. These great problems could be reversed if we industrialized hemp. Natural biomass could provide all of the planet's energy needs that are currently supplied by fossil fuels. We have consumed 80% of our oil and gas reserves. We need a renewable resource. Hemp could be the solution to soaring gas prices.full article here, yes its much longer.

what people need to promote is that drug prohibition is the most communistic thing the government has done in over 100 years. Prohibition of hemp was the state interfering in economic competition for the benefit of politically connected apparatchiki - just like in the old Soviet Union. The premise of prohibition is that the government has the right to dictate over people's bloodstream - in essence that people are property of the state. It doesn't get any more communist than that.

Really? The mostcommunistic thing of the last 100 years? I think we're exaggerating a little.

Thee other reasons, are for military defense, and weapon, missile technology, remember how Ford produced the resin car, well that resin is highly efficient in rocket building, now consider how it would be if every nation had such protective recourses, that can be homegrown, you also have the additional hydrocarbon applications its used for too.

Let's get back to our enlightened roots here in America. Hemp is a gift from God. Let's legalize it nationwide. I know it would solve California's economic woes and we are a great economic resource for the entire nation. We can do this.

Hemp is still used for most of those things, the fact of the matter is many other natural and synthetic fibers do it better. The real paradox is why smoking it is illegal yet drinking alcohol isn't - they are as harmful as each other!

No one has died from smoking too much cannabis. You fall asleep first. At least hundreds of thousands have died from alcohol poisoning. Cannabis is totally benign compared to alcohol.

Speaking as a long-time cannabis user, formerly all day every day, now just for special occasions:
The acute (immediate) deadliness of the chemicals involved is only one small part of the equation of harm. The very fact that cannabis use is able to be kept up for long periods of time without significant physical damage can sometimes be one of it's downsides, because when it's not doing you any "harm" it's way, way /way/ easier to fall into the trap of getting wasted every day to hide your problems. Sure, the same thing happens to alcoholics, and when it does, it's far worse. But when any reasonable person has gotten drunk every night for a week (and they don't normally do this, they start thinking "man, I really ought to lay off for a while". Because the harmful effects are immediately obvious, you understand much more quickly that it's not wise to be often under the influence of _any_ substance. But with weed, it's much easier, because you feel fine every morning, to say, at first "well hey, as long as I get my work done today, I can have a sesh at night.", then the next week "eh, it's okay if I have a wake n bake once or twice, I can totally still function", then "FUCK YOU WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE I CAN SMOKE WEED ANY TIME I WANT". (I was that person for a while, haha). Now I'm not saying that I disagree with it entirely, or that it has horrible health effects like alcohol does. But it has a very very seductive pattern of use exactly because it's so safe and it makes you feel like everything's okay, in a world which is really grim. And let's face it, we all need that sometimes. But it's very easy to lose track, and it's at this point where the real harmcomes out, because in the process you forget about the real world, or the parts of it that you can't experience properly while high.
Long story short: whenever anyone takes any substance they trade one type of experience for another, and the harm of marijuana is in forgetting how to cope on the experience level that, for better or for worse, everyone else is on.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate yourcomment. We are of like minds for sure. Up until about a month ago, I was an everyday smoker for a solid year. (medical card for insomnia) And where it was really effective treating the troubles I have always had falling asleep, it really took a toll on my minds ability to stay "sharp" (as well as the other cons mentioned in your post). I quit for a month and got my sharpness back in approx 5 days. I was only then that I could see the forest for the trees. I really lost touch with some crucial coping skills I took for granted before smoking daily. So not to opposed the usecompletely, I recently picked up a gram to celebrate a personal win and damn near got "seduced" into smoking daily again. I don't know if it is chemically addictive but it IS very seductive. Let me be clear, I think it is heads above any other recreational "drug" out there- one because it actually has (safe) medicinal qualities- but also because it NEVER felt like I was poisoned if I smoked copious amounts- just a little foggy in the morning. I just want to say thank you for laying out the real cons of smoking weed so eloquently. You should write a pamphlet or something. After my year experiment I describe smoking weed like this; "it's like laying out on the beach- sure it provides instant gratification and relaxation and there is NOTHING inherently wrong with it- but if you are laying on the beach everyday, it is damn near impossible to maintain all the important fringe elements of your daily life, which in turn can slowly secretly raise anxiety levels and leave you with few places to go other than the beach " or something like that, you get the gist.

Glad to be of service. Unfortunately I think that this is a lesson everyone needs to learn on their own. I had many friends who I previously got stoned with every day for years, who came to their senses and started telling me the same thing. But I wouldn't believe it until I really experienced it for myself. Your beach analogy is perfect, it is a damn wonderful drug, and indeed physically fairly benign, even good in some ways. But I think articles like this one, and many of thecomments here, are essentially the opposite form to the governments' anti-drug propoganda, and equally misleading as they encourage people to hide behind chemical (yes, even a plant is a chemical) shelters instead of really working on their problems (and we all have those, whether we can admit it or not). Nice to know there's more of us out there that aren't gonna be cowards on either side of the argument

Well, though I agree hemp is an amazing natural resource, to open your argument by saying that marijuana is not harmful to our body or minds shows that your argument is not properly researched and rather propogandist.
Marijuana does harm to BOTH your mind and body. Period. Chronic use of marijuana containing THC has been proven to cause Psychosis, and marijuana smoke has been proven more harmful than cigarette smoke.
It's not good for you. Have your fun then move on.

Ok if pot is more harmful than cigarettes answer me this smart ass. My father had cancer , smoked for 30+ years. Quit smoking cigarettes and kept smoking weed. Now tell me how his lungs recovered from smoking cigarettes? Doctors check his lungs every 6 months and every month they are better. It has been 15 years and he has more lung capacity as me, because I smoke cigarettes still. Cigarettes are the killer not pot. My father is living proof that pot smoke is not bad for you period. don't believe me ask him and his doctor!! I was a skeptic like you until this happened. And it woke me up big time.

If you cut down smoking 30 sticks of vegetable matter each day to 5, your lungs are going to improve. It doesn't matter what you're smoking.

Talking about not doing your homework.
The new studies being done on the psychoactive substances in cannabis are unreal. For a start, THC flat kills a variety of brain cancer. Studies on cannabis for mental illness are getting mixed, but positive results. Your bit about psychosis is accurate but you forgot to mention that the rate of psychosis with cannabis users is only a few percent about the national average for any form of psychosis. Big deal. As for smoke-- a water pipe significantly removes tar and ash as well as cooling the smoke. Then, of course, there is vapor-- extremely clean. And cooking with cannabis is quite safe.
I can go on and on.. and more REAL studies are being done right now. Even the AMA has backed down on the "government story" on cannabis.
I've been a medical user for a while. Keeps my eye pressure in the 7-8 range... better than the 14 I was at before. Cannabis is a HUGE improvement over vicodin for pain. And it kicks ass on my peripheral neuropathy. I take almost no prescription drugs anymore. And I was up to 11 drugs a day to stay up and going. Heck, I don't even get high. Usually only 1/2 gram a day of a strong indica. That's all it takes to keep my symptoms at bay. I'm more active and more social.
Well, you have your opinion; I have mine. But it really irks me to see folks spreading propaganda on topics they aren't really following in the science, medical and psychological media. The tide against cannabis is turning.
Only in the last few years is REAL research being done on the medicinal uses- ever. Any prior research has typically been found to be either totally bogus or done in non-scientific ways. They have even found two THC specific receptors in the brain, so far. Hmmm... mankind has been using cannabis for 'how long...'? Did we adapt to the THC ? Is it a true natural medicine ?
Time will tell...

"The new studies being done on the psychoactive substances in cannabis are unreal. For a start, THC flat kills a variety of brain cancer."
Well, those studies were done mainly on mice, though a pilot study on humans was shown to reduce only a certian type of brain cancer. So not quite conclusive.
"Your bit about psychosis is accurate but you forgot to mention that the rate of psychosis with cannabis users is only a few percent about the national average for any form of psychosis."
Fair enough. It is a fairly low percentage. It is also true however that this is largely because most Marijuana smokers don't smoke sufficient amounts to put themselves at risk of psychosis. That doen't mean it's not dangerous.
Your comment about water pipes is simply not true. A studies by the World Health Organisation aswell as the Mayo Clinic have shown that the smoke drawn through a water pipe is just as detrimental to a person's health. A water pipe (hookah/bong etc.) will trap more psychoactive THC than other tars, meaning one must take in more harmful smoke to create the desired effect.
Vaporizers greatly reduce the intake of harmful constituants in Marijuana, but a similar problem to the water pipe exists: one still takes in 10 times as much tar as THC.
Cooking is definately a healthier way of ingesting it.
I'm glad Marijuana helps you lead a better life. I'm even happier that you've been able to replace your prescription drugs with Marijuana. I don't even take asprin. I don't like prescription drugs. My intention was never to negate the positive effects of marijuana, but rather to dispel the myth of the authors opening statement that Marijuana is not dangerous.
Well, the previous research was regarded as true in it's day, so how can you be sure the new research is not the same?
Most medicines are bad for us, natural or otherwise. I just err on the of caution. It's irresponsible to just tell everyone it's safe. It's not. Just as asprin isn't.

lol iam from holland and smoked alot (stoped now cause under presure of the eu, ucant grow anymore, and buying it 'legaly' cost way to much), but let me tell u the problem...
ihavent seen 1 person dying OR getting sick from cannabis, while alcohol... lol do i need to explain? and sig smoke is worse, recent studys shows tabaco is more addictif as cocaine YES cocaine let alone pott, also the fact that it keeps u down instedd of agresive, and psycho? well when ur already psycho and gonna smoke pott then yea u could blame it on the pott... bit way around i think but sure... 1 problem we have in holland thats not good, is that they make it so powerfull with non natural products... (who ARE bad for u) its now probaly 1000x more powerfull then 'normal' grown weed of 10-20 years back, but ucant grow it at home anymore, so uhave to buy this crap weed, which is giving problems...
nah ur very wrong on what u say and maybe u should try it first and then talk with us... because the studys u talk about are worthless again iam from holland and they smoke it alot here 'legaly' and havent seen nobody trip/flip/die or getting sick of weed, but sure go ahead and believe those studys u mention, btw the same people who now say radiation is good for u, keep believing it, the first thing i gonna do when our gouverment collapses is growing weed next to the food...,
it is unlike ANY other drugs naturaly made and only needs drying after u grow,
even in sigs they put other non-naturaly things...

If you drink too much WATER, you could DIE! (water intoxication). So, don't drink water! it's so harmful to BODY! On the other hand, yes THC is very very bad, because it makes you look ourself, our planet through your third eye. THAT would made you more suffering than anything in your life. Think about it.
Reply to this
You're right. You can die from drinking water IF the water is contaminated by a water bourne disease or harmful chemical substance; OR IF you simply drink too much of it.
One can look at oneself (even through the third eye) without psychoactive drugs. In my opinion, you have a better chance of finding an objective and truthful view of yourself and others through meditation

Actually you CAN die from drinking to much water even its purified. Its called water intoxication. Google it. Osmotic pressure draws the water into the cells causing them to burst. Too much water and too many cells suddenly die and you are dead.

British epidemiologic research shows that even though the use of cannabis has increased dramatically over the years psychosis has not which seems to disprove that scare tactic.
Reply to this
Again, it depends how you look at that information. More PEOPLE have begun using it over the years, but in relatively small amounts. The majority of users simply don't smoke enough to put themselves at risk of developing psychosis.

unfortunately this too is also completely incorrect. It most certainly has NOT been linked to any psychological disorder...EVER...in its thousands of years of use as part of nature. And no it most certainly has NOT been proven to be more harmful than cigarette smoke, that is one of the most ignorant pieces of information that folks have carried with them since their brainwashed childhoods. The smoking of cannabis has been shown to have a very minimal effect on the lungs compared to poisonous cigarette smoke, and considering the cannabis can be vaporized, consumed or even used as a lotion or spray in this day in age, that arguement has become completely irrelevant.

1. Hemp and Marijuana are NOT the same thing. MJ is a member of the hemp family, but you won't get high smoking hemp.
2. Many early American settlers grew hemp, it was primarily used in the shipbuilding industry. But to insinuate they grew "pot", is dishonest.
3. Smoking is harmful. Period. Cigarettes, Marijuana, Crack, Grape Leaves, whatever. It is the act of smoking that is harmful. The substance smoked may, or may not, cause additional damages. There has never been a long term study on Marijuana to determine detrimental effects. You are misleading people by saying it is not harmful. Nobody knows at this point.
4. If you want to smoke pot, go out in your backyard and fire it up. Nobody cares, and it doesn't have to be "legal" or "Illegal". The cops aren't hanging out on your porch waiting to arrest you...

Marijuana is not a dangerous drug, no one ever died of a marijuana overdose. Even more, it's got a lot of medical properties and could be used in medicine or smoked for recreational purposes. But cigarette and pharma companies wouldn't want such a cheap product to replace their established expensive products. That is way they finance a defaming of marijuana campaign.

Unlike most people you have clearly done a lot of in depth research, alcohol and cigarettes actually kill people, and marijuana doesn’t… Yet alcohol and cigarettes are so easily available and not illegal in any way. It is completely absurd.

Well, one point of innacurracy is that CANVAS is not the Dutch for Cannabis nor Hemp.
As this is innaccurate, leads one to question a lot of the other reported facts.
Besides, as a 40yr old Cannabis addict, to say that it is not dangerous would be a lie. The plant of the 1800s has little to do with the chronic skunk weed smoked today.

The same is true for nicotine and alcohol. Prohibition of any substance is a farce for obvious reasons (apart from in Singapore). Bruce Lee's death was caused by it's use. More people die from contaminants in the drug than from a reaction to the drug. If the product was legal and quality controlled then less people who would be using it anyway would die. When alcohol was prohibited in the US, many people died by drinking moonshine with methanol which was added to increase the proof. The government realized that by prohibiting it they were greatly increasing the damage that it can do.

Just a little FYI,
"Where did the word 'marijuana' come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant."
---
Actually, the name marijuana was taken from Mexican slang for pot and introduced in America in order to keep the American medical community unaware that cannabis was being attacked.
At that time, cannabis had dozens of medical applications and the medical community would have complained loudly had they known that the killer weed called marijuana was actually the noble plant known as cannabis sativa.
The perpetrators knew that the medical community could blow their plan out of the water by producing scientific evidence of cannabis's medical efficacy.
After all, who would you believe when it came to toxic substances? A couple of politicians and a banker, or a gang of medical professionals?

They profess to get the the "government" off our backs ,yet create ever more repressive rules here in Indiana, except for weapons.Marijuana never killed anyone, guns do, everyday, and not just in the hands of known criminals .What a lot of fools they are, what fools my fellow citizens are who placed them in office.

Actually you CAN die from drinking to much water even its purified. Its called water intoxication. Google it. Osmotic pressure draws the water into the cells causing them to burst. Too much water and too many cells suddenly die and you are dead.
